As part of our ongoing advocacy efforts, the Alaska State Home Building Association (ASHBA) is actively supporting key initiatives that promote a strong and sustainable housing industry in Alaska. Here are the primary areas of focus:

  1. Economic Growth & Housing Impact – ASHBA supports state actions that foster private sector growth and responsible resource development. We also advocate for a public campaign to highlight the economic benefits of new housing.
  2. Reducing Housing Costs – We back initiatives that lower homebuilding expenses, including continued support for AHFC’s New Home Construction Rebate Program.
  3. Energy Efficiency Investments – ASHBA supports ongoing state funding for AHFC’s Weatherization Program to improve energy efficiency in new and existing homes.
  4. Cold Climate Research & Innovation – We advocate for continued funding for the Cold Climate Housing Research Center to advance affordable and efficient housing solutions.
  5. Workforce Development & Training – We encourage investment in vocational and technical training, particularly in high schools, to build a skilled workforce for the homebuilding industry.
  6. Building Safety & Standards – ASHBA supports homes being built to the minimum standard residential building code adopted by AHFC to ensure safe and resilient structures.
  7. Opposition to New Fairbanks Energy Rating Mandate – ASHBA opposes new DEC regulations requiring an energy rating for all residential properties before sale in the Fairbanks North Star Borough non-attainment area, citing concerns about added costs and regulatory burdens.

2025 Legislative Conference

NAHB’s most important lobbying event took place in Washington DC from June 10-13. This was a unique opportunity for members to speak one-on-one with their elected representatives on Capitol Hill and to push for housing policies that will help their businesses and our industry.
